Welcome to the HyperACCESS Pro Beta Test!
-----------------------------------------
Thanks for helping us beta test HyperACCESS Pro, the ultimate OS/2
communications program. In this file you will find important informa-
tion about HyperACCESS Pro Beta #2 and bug reporting procedures.
HyperACCESS Pro is the exciting new top-of-the-line product from
Hilgraeve, the leading manufacturer of OS/2 communications software
since 1989, makers of HyperACCESS Lite (which IBM bundles with OS/2
Warp), HyperACCESS, HyperACCESS/5 and KopyKat.
HyperACCESS Pro gives you the power to access BBSs, online services
and host computers through modems or the Internet, PLUS the ability to
remotely control other OS/2 PCs. All perfectly integrated in the
clean, award-winning user interface that earned HyperACCESS for OS/2
the title "Best New Communications Program of 1995" from OS/2
Professional.
HyperACCESS Pro includes every capability you'll find in HyperACCESS
for OS/2, plus new 32-bit remote control powers evolved from the 16-
bit remote control technology we pioneered in KopyKat.
The rest of this section compares HyperACCESS Pro to HyperACCESS Lite
and other Hilgraeve products. Skip to the next section, if you like.
Benefits HyperACCESS Pro offers over HyperACCESS Lite:
* Now you can see and operate the entire OS/2 desktop of a remote PC.
* Answer calls from other PCs with a powerful password-protected host.
* Learn and play back logons, file transfers or repetitive operations.
* Automate communications processes with REXX or external languages.
* See graphics files display on the fly as you download them.
* Emulate additional terminals with greater flexibility, including the
power to redefine keys, screen colors, and number of rows & columns.
* Enjoy more and faster file transfer protocols with more settings.
* Supports more modems or works through your existing TCP/IP stack,
NetBIOS and SPX/IPX networks, serial cables or multi-port boards.
* Comes with one-click utilities that call Govt BBSs and set your PC's
time/date to atomic standards or display the latest weather maps.
* You also get a list of 300 OS/2 BBSs, preloaded and ready to call!
Benefits HyperACCESS Pro offers over HyperACCESS for OS/2:
* HyperACCESS Pro now includes HyperHost, a separate program, like
host mode in HyperACCESS for OS/2, but more powerful and secure.
* Each HyperACCESS Pro retail package will include a second copy of
HyperHost, for use on a second OS/2 PC.
* HyperHost can be accessed by anyone with communications software and
a password, but HyperACCESS Pro users have special powers.
* Authorized HyperACCESS Pro users can see and remotely control the
OS/2 desktop of HyperHost PCs, and transfer files more quickly.
* You can communicate through a wider variety of modems than ever, or
through the Internet, or any TCP/IP, NetBIOS or SPX/IPX network.
* HyperACCESS Pro will add emulation of IBM3278 terminals, so you can
access IBM host computers through asynchronous protocol converters.
Benefits HyperACCESS Pro offers over KopyKat:
* Assign different access privileges & passwords to each caller.
* Improved security with callback, time limits and activity logging.
* Now remotely control OS/2 PCs with up to 1280 X 1024 X 16M colors.
* You can scale the size of the image of the remote PC's desktop.
* Reverse the phone charges by using roving callback.
* You and the remote user can chat (using your keyboards).
* Automate file transfers using REXX or other programming languages.
* Navigate to remote PCs through Internet service providers, PBXs, or
other systems that display prompts or login procedures of their own.
* Your PC can now answer & differentiate between calls authorized for
remote control or unattended file transfer, through the same modem.
* Simultaneously transfer files, use remote control and chat, with new
cutting-edge 32-bit multi-channel technology that kicks in when you
connect between PCs with HyperACCESS Pro, through dial-up, Internet,
or TCP/IP, NetBIOS or SPX/IPX networks. (Keep using 16-bit KopyKat
for remote control of PCs with OS/2 1.3.)
Benefits HyperACCESS Pro offers over HyperACCESS/5:
* Full graphical remote control between HyperACCESS Pro PCs.
* Supports more modems and works through your existing TCP/IP stack.
* Instantly review received text in backscroll buffer that keeps text
even between sessions, stored separately for each system you call.
* Safer easier HyperProtocol transfers with autostart, crash recovery.
* Record or write scripts with REXX or external programming languages.
* 32-bit viewer displays graphics files as you download files.

Downloading and Uncompressing HyperACCESS Pro Beta #2
-----------------------------------------------------
Before you can install HyperACCESS Pro Beta #2, you need to download
it from any of many online sites and unzip the program files. Beta #2
is provided as two zip files, HAPB2_D1.ZIP and HAPB2_D2.ZIP. The
file you're reading now came from HAPB2_D1.ZIP, so if you're reading
this, you probably already unpacked at least that file. But we'll
explain the process anyway, in case you got this file some other way.
HAPB2_D1.ZIP and HAPB2_D2.ZIP contain the HyperACCESS Pro installation
files in compressed format. After you download these files, you need
to run them to generate the files necessary to install HyperACCESS
Pro. HAPB2_D1.ZIP expands to create Disk #1 of a two-disk set of
installation disks, and HAPB2_D2.ZIP expands to create Disk #2. Here's
the procedure:
1. Open an OS/2 window, and change to the drive and/or directory
containing the downloaded files.
2. Type PKUNZIP HAPB2_D1 <destination>, and press ENTER. Replace
<destination> with the drive and/or directory where you want the
HyperACCESS Pro files to be copied. We recommend that the
destination be a floppy drive containing a blank, formatted
3-1/2" diskette. That way, you can use this diskette to install
the software on each of the PCs you use for testing.
Example: PKUNZIP HAPB2_D1 A:
3. Repeat step 2 for the file HAPB2_D2.ZIP. If uncompressing to floppy
disks, please label the diskettes as HyperACCESS Pro Disk #1 and
Disk #2.
4. Once the files have been copied to the drive or directory, use a
text editor to read the README.NOW file in the Disk #1 drive or
directory. (That's the file you're reading now!)
------------
Installation
------------
Once you've downloaded and uncompressed HyperACCESS Pro Beta #2, you
can install it as described here:
Setup Phase I
=============
1. Change to the drive that contains HyperACCESS Pro Disk #1 (or the
directory that contains the Disk #1 files).
2. Type SETUP.
3. When asked if you want to install HyperHost also, answer Yes.
4. Specify the directories for the Program and Data files. These may
be the same or different location depending on your preferences.
Click OK to continue.
NOTE: Program files may be installed to a shared network directory
that you set to read-only after installation. Data files must be in
a writable directory and should not be shared.
5. Select the choice you prefer in the CONFIG.SYS Additions dialog,
and click OK.
6. Click Continue after reading the next status message. HyperACCESS
Pro files will then be copied to the specified directories.
7. When prompted to do so, insert HyperACCESS Pro Disk #2 (or specify
the directory that contains the Disk #2 files). Click OK t
